This session will teach you how to safely introduce, or reintroduce, a new mum to exercise. From understanding when and how medical clearance for exercise is given, to identifying key anatomical areas of focus in a post-natal body, you will learn to confidently, safely, and effectively guide new mothers in their exercise practice.
You will be given a template for an in-depth Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ) form and taught ideal exercises to use during the first three post-natal months. Discover strategies to help mums reconnect with their deep core and pelvic floor, and strengthen these muscles for more effective exercise while managing exhaustion and fatigue.
Learning Outcomes:
– Understand the ‘6-week check’, and what information it gives the new mother
– Understand a PARQ form, and how to comfortably perform a detailed and personal consultation using it
– Know how to teach connection to pelvic floor, and transverse abdominal muscles
– Know how to check for and measure an abdominal separation
– Understand how to write an appropriate entry-level programme for a new mother
